“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one, just remember that all people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you had,”

First thing first, its hard for me arranging the summary of this novel in my own word so pardon me because i choose to put the summary from wikipedia here:

The main events of the novel take place in the summer of 1922, narrated by Nick Carraway, a Yale graduate and World War I veteran from the Midwest who takes a job in New York as a bond salesman. He rents a small house on Long Island, in the (fictional) village of West Egg, next door to the lavish mansion of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire who holds extravagant parties. Nick drives across the bay to East Egg for dinner at the home of his cousin, Daisy Buchanan, and her husband, Tom, a college acquaintance of Nick’s. They introduce Nick to Jordan Baker, an attractive, cynical young golfer with whom Nick begins a romantic relationship. Jordan reveals to Nick that Tom has a mistress, Myrtle Wilson, who lives in the “valley of ashes”: an industrial dumping ground between West Egg and New York City. Not long after this revelation, Nick travels to New York City with Tom and Myrtle to an apartment they keep for their affair. At the apartment, a vulgar and bizarre party ends with Tom breaking Myrtle’s nose after she taunts Tom about Daisy.

As the summer progresses, Nick eventually receives an invitation to one of Gatsby’s parties. Nick encounters Jordan Baker at the party, and they meet Gatsby himself, an aloof and surprisingly young man who recognizes Nick from their same division in the war. Through Jordan, Nick later learns that Gatsby knew Daisy from a romantic encounter in 1917 and is deeply in love with her… (more about the plot summary, spoiler and other information here)

***

Dan mengetahui Gatsby yang begitu, i dislike him. He seem less cool because of that. Lalu membuat saya mengingat Leo yang menjelma Romeo.Β oh no.

Anothe tellings from Fitzgerald here make me thought that any money-related things become shallow, jika tidak diimbangi dengan kebijaksanaan. entahlah

hmm… ada bagian cerita yang terlewat ga ya? pardon me,

Characters

Jay Gatsby, please. you shouldn’t be blind by love. i expect you to have more cool side beside your richness.

Tom Buchanan,Β i dunno why but you had my apology. you should fix your marriage and your family. please be respectful person because you already had Daisy and a beautiful daughter.

Daisy Buchanan,Β if only you’re not into money from the beginning you meet Gatsby. you shouldn’t leave him if you really love him.

Nick Carraway, though you’re the third person that tells us the story about Gatsby, i like you more than the other characters. Maybe its because you’re persistent in your principe. You’re wise enough and a protagonist one. well, you’re the one that learn the most from Gatsby, his story and his surrounding.

Writings

Melalui The Great Gatsby, menurut saya, Fitzgerald hanya memilih cara yang tidak mudah untuk menyampaikan banyak hal. Iya, banyak hal hendak disampaikan melalui novel ini. Tapi penulisannya sebenarnya indah. Well i approve the claim that The Great Gatsby was a masterpiece.

Endings

Hpfhht, endingnya emang ngga nyenengin.
